Our featured project is a 1985 Toyota Landcruiser FJ60.
This vehicle has had a full first life! As far as we can tell, it has spent most of it’s life int the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.
The FJ60 first came out in 1980 and was produced until 1989 as FJ60 and FJ62 Models.
Underneath the FJ60 was a lightly updated version of the fully boxed ladder frame used on the later FJ55s, with solid axles and leaf springs front and rear. Four-wheel drive was standard, with a high- and low-range transfer case and manually locking hubs: old-school heavy duty off-road hardware.
The FJ60 only had 3500-pound towing capacity so it was way under powered for heavy loads like a camper.
It was Toyota’s first step up into the “Luxury SUV” space. Although, the vehicle had few luxury perks. It was a manual transmission vehicle with locking hubs. Unlikely to have power windows in the earlier model.
FJ60’s have become VERY popular in the collectors market for both the purists and the resto-mod enthusiasts.
We are taking the latter approach with this project! We will keep you posted on our phases and plans. We plan on creating a total rebuild with modern drivetrain and amenities. This vehicle with be a daily driver when completed.
